Principal's Message

Puma Parents…

Wow!  It has been quite the first week of our school year! Don’t get me wrong… it was fun, but exhausting!  Building relationships is hard work, but well worth the effort!  Our work has begun and will continue!  I want to thank the entire community for making it possible! First, the sixth graders for their endurance!  Next, the seventh and eighth graders for their leadership.  Staff, for their willingness to set aside their curriculum routines and for their understanding of how important this week is.  Finally… Thank you to our parents who were able to help supervise campus or just support their kids through the transition of coming back to school!  An amazing community where EVERYONE plays a role!

Speaking of coming back to school, all our parents are invited to attend our annual Back to School Night next Thursday, August 23 at 6:30pm.  The night begins in our courtyard and then parents will travel their child’s class schedule for the evening.  More information will be provided next week… along with a copy of your child’s schedule… and a map if needed.  Please come to meet your child’s teacher and to learn about the class curriculum.  There are many new faces and some older faces in new places.

With a new school year, changes are inevitable.  Long time Pine Valley teachers, Robin White and Cindy Phillips announced their retirements over the summer.  Congratulations to them both!  So joining our Core 7 team is Sarah Nice, Kelly Raab, and Simone Yamshon.  Long time Core 6 teacher, Kristy Lomando will be joining them in 7thgrade.  Joining our Core 8 team will be Jessica Hoyt, Chrissy Robinson and Johnny Scioscia.  Congratulations to Core 8 veteran, Kim Murray who became an assistant principal in Pittsburg. Joining our Core 6 team is Heather Cooper.  PV veteran teachers Maria Ciriaco and Laurie Fenstermacher have moved from other grade levels to our Core 6 team, as well.  Many of you have already heard that long time Core 6 teacher, Logan Wulff and his family have moved to Oregon.  He will be sorely missed.  Finally, we are happy to welcome Resource 7 teacher, Rhonda Coleman to our special education team and Sharon Stewart, who is our new school counselor for 6thgrade and 7thgrade (A-K).  After a year away from us, Ryan Tenney is rejoining our PE team!

For some additional reminders… PE clothes will be distributed in PE classes on Monday, August 20 and school pictures will be taken in PE on Tuesday, August 21. Picture packages are available for purchase on our website,  All students will have their picture taken for an ID card and the yearbook.  Be on the lookout for the Spirit Wear Store to open next week.  A link will be sent to families.

As a reminder for all… For safety reasons, Pine Valley parents are highly encouraged to drop off and pick up in the back parking lot off of Broadmoor.  Please pull up towards the bike rack/gym before stopping to let your child out of the car.  Letting them out earlier causes a backup and additional traffic jams onto Broadmoor.

At Pine Valley, the front driveway is reserved for buses only and you should NEVER enter when a bus is present.  If students must be dropped off in front of Pine Valley, please do so at the curb and remind your child to use the crosswalk, which is monitored by school staff. Parents are not allowed to drop off students on Laguna Place or the front staff parking lot.  These rules are not intended to be inconvenient for parents, they are intended to keep kids safe. Please support our efforts this year.

At Pine Valley, communication is something we pride ourselves in.  You will get emails such as these frequently, but our weekly PTA newsletter sent on Thursdays is also an excellent way to stay informed.  If you are not on that PTA list, please contact our PTA President, Julie Burlingame at  Also, frequently visit our webpage at for updated announcements and calendars.  We also use the Remind app if you are interested.  To register for that, please go to our webpage and sign up.

That is it for now!  It was a great first week that I think will lead into a great school year! I am always proud to be your principal!

Every Puma Counts,

Jason Law
